The Making of...
MBV-707-A
TEMJIN Test Type

base kit: Wave 1:144 Temjin DNA side

This is my 1st Oratan plastic kit so I decided to paint it as a test type as appeared in M.S.B.S. v5.45 for Dreamcast. This is a highly accurate kit, although much details are omitted to compromise for the plastic mould. The original mould was developed for use with the resin kit of the same scale so you can count on the proportions.

Preperation was a pain in the butt, since the kit's scale is so small the tiny parts was giving me hell. Anyway all parts were sprayed with a couple layers of Tamiya's primer/surfacer before sanding and leveling of parting lines. Then it was time to do a little detail-up and modifications:

Heels

Used craft knife to add the ditches just below the decals. Was easy.

Feet

Used a yellow putty called "Mori Mori" to modify the frame enclosing the feet's crystal sensors into trapeziums, since the original plastic kit had rectangular frames. The crystals were trimmed down a little as well. Notice the dirt just above the cuff of the "boots"? I tried using Gunze's Mr. Metal Color but I soon found out how weak the adhesive power is. With a little posing, the metal grains soon found themselves on the white shins without the protection of a topcoat. Learnt my lesson there.

Upper body

The visor has to be levelled as in high-end CGs. Carved the sensors just below the chest. Had to remodel the index and middle fingers of right hand with Mori-Mori since the original kit has messed up fingers... was not happy with the rounded fingers...

Closed

Since it's a test type Temjin I choosed the 5.2 Saturn instead of the 5.4 Dreamcast... the DC that came with the kit wasn't that good anyways... added a few plastic strips to the mind boosters for the crystals (The kit only gave you stickers).

Inside

Again, Mori-Mori was used to fill up the inside of the convertor's cover for better detail.

Open

I found a special Kodak sticker from Paperchase (UK) and brought it back to Hong Kong. Cut out a small disc in place of the original provided by the kit. Nice hey?

After modifications most parts were sprayed with 2-3 layers of Gunze's acrylic matt white paint as an under layer, covering up the grey surfacer. Then after numerous masking and drying on wooden chopsticks and painting cycles...

Ta da~ not bad hey?
